Screen doors
A hinged screen door with a closer, a latch, and a kick panel is the usual companion to an entry door. We replace it when the frame has sagged, the closer is dead, or the mesh is beyond spline. Retractable screens are a different mechanism; we will say if the hardware you have can be serviced or should be replaced outright.
Sliding screen door replacement — the panel that runs in front of a patio door — lives here rather than on the patio door page, so a torn screen is not quoted as a new slider. If the patio door itself jumps the track, that scope moves to patio and sliding doors.
Storm doors
A storm door adds a weather layer and a season of glass in front of the entry. Storm door installation has to clear the primary door’s handle and swing. We measure both doors together. A storm door that binds on the front door hardware is not a successful install, even if the new door looked right in the driveway.
Window screens are a different visit
Mesh for double-hungs, sliders, and casements is window screen replacement. Mention both on the form if the house needs them; they can share a trip, and they stay as separate lines.
What we need to know
- Hinged or sliding.
- Colour of the existing primary door, so the outer door does not fight it.
- Whether a closer and a wind chain are required.
- The condition of the mounting surface. A soft jamb will not hold a closer.
Questions we hear on this work
Can you replace only the mesh?
Yes, when the frame is square. A bent sliding screen frame is replaced.
Will a storm door fit any entry?
Only if the swing, the handle, and the brickmould allow it. We measure the primary door rather than assuming a stock size.
Do you remove storm doors in summer?
Many storm doors include a glass panel and a screen panel that swap. We can set the door up so that seasonal change is something you can do without tools you do not own.
