Replacement
Patio door replacement is due when the panel is heavy to move, the lock misses the keeper, the sill is rotten, or you can see daylight at the meeting stile. Sliding door replacement and sliding glass door replacement are the same visit. We replace the frame and panels together when the track is worn through. A new panel in a dead track will still drag.
Hinged patio doors — including French-style pairs — are specified when you want the opening to swing rather than slide. The rough opening, the swing into the room, and the screen are planned before anything is ordered. A single tired entry door is not this product.
Installation
A new slider in a wall that used to be solid, or a wider opening than the old door, is installation. The header, the flashing, and the interior floor height are the work, on top of the door. See door installation for how a new opening is sequenced. The product choices stay here.
Glass, screens, and energy
- Fogged patio glass can be glass replacement if the panel and the lock are sound.
- A sliding screen that has left its track is a screen door repair, not a new patio door.
- Large glass wants an intentional double-pane or triple-pane spec. Read energy-efficient windows before assuming the biggest package is the right one.
- Safety glass is standard in these doors. We do not downgrade it.
What we look at during the measure
Square of the opening, condition of the subsill, interior flooring height, and how the door is actually used. A door to a deck that collects snow needs a different sill conversation than a door under a deep porch. We also note whether the old door was ever flashed or simply trimmed and hoped for.
Questions we hear on this work
Is a patio door the same as a sliding door?
In most Manitoba homes, yes. If you have a hinged pair, say so on the form. We will measure it as a hinged patio door, not force it into a slider quote.
Can you replace the rollers only?
Sometimes, on a straight panel and a clean track. If the sill is rotten, rollers are not the repair.
Will a new slider stop drafts?
A square installation and intact weatherstrip will close the gaps you can see. A house that leaks everywhere else will still feel the winter. We will not promise a new furnace bill.
